Each local Crimebeat scheme encourages groups of young people to develop their ideas on crime reduction and turn them into successful projects. A large number of young people have become involved in these projects and they in turn pass on benefits of their work to their peers and the wider community. Young people are solving problems that matter to them in their communities through Crimebeat initiatives.
Crimebeat schemes offer a great chance for young people between the ages of 5 & 25 to show what they can do and how their project can help them and others in their area.
Most Crimebeat Schemes give grants of up to £500 to assist in setting up projects, or they operate a competition with prize money available to the winning groups
All Crimebeat schemes are championed by the High Sheriff
who each year is invited to submit one project to the National
Crimebeat Awards.
Projects can be of wide range and interest, and have in the past included helping older people make their homes safer, a bus pass scheme on school buses to reduce disruptive behaviour, support and counselling groups at school, stranger danger projects, drug and alcohol information and advice. The list goes on. Projects have in the past taken the form of music CDs, video productions, environmental clear up solutions, drama presentations and many other innovative ways of getting a message across or showing positive action. Each year High Sheriffs submit the best example they have found of young people working to create safer communities. The projects are judged against set criteria which emphasise the part played by young people themselves and the influence their work has had on other young people and the wider community.

The next step is to click on the map to find your local Crimebeat Scheme. Then have a think about problems that you feel need addressing in your area and what you believe could be done to make things better. Then contact your local Crimebeat scheme to see how they can help you. There might be an application form to fill in if funding is available or else there might be an awards scheme you can enter. However your Crimebeat Scheme operates, get in touch and enjoy your project. GOOD LUCK! You might have already been involved in a project that
is now finished that you'd like to tell your local Crimebeat scheme about.
Your High Sheriff will be very interested in your project if it has involved
making your community a safer place to be.
